Motorcycle taxi firm Angkas said Thursday that it is ready to return on the road and transport workers as part of its efforts in helping revive the economy amid the pandemic.
“We are ready and eager to serve especially our commuters who are required to go back to work but are faced with a critical shortage in public transportation. Angkas would be pleased to fill that gap so that we could safely ferry our passengers to their destinations,” Angkas chief transport advocate George Royeca said during the virtual launching of the “Ingat Angat Tayong Lahat” campaign.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque announced on Tuesday that the Inter-agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has recommended the Metro Manila mayors’ request for the government to continue the pilot study on motorcycle taxis.
Angkas was in the last leg of the pilot service run when its operations were halted due to the health crisis.
During the campaign launch, Roque, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. and Secretary Vince Dizon also backed the resumption of Angkas’ operations in line with the government’s plan to “increase the number of vehicles, especially ride-hailing motorcycles to provide services to more than 400,000 workers.”
According to Royeca, apart from servicing more commuters, this latest development was an opportunity for the more than 20,000 Angkas riders who lost their livelihoods to go back on the roads again. (Alexandria San Juan)
