Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso called on church leaders to come up with plans on how to celebrate upcoming religious traditions such as Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo and Traslacion amid the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Domagoso requested that the upcoming religious events be celebrated in a “conservative” manner to prevent a spike in COVID-19 infections in the city.
“Let me take this opportunity para manawagan sa mga leader sa simbahan to come up with a plan among themselves on how are we going to practice the tradition of Simbang Gabi,” he told reporters on Monday.
“We just want to be ahead because there are things that we cannot control but pwede naman maiwasan,” he added.
Earlier, the Manila mayor announced that he will not allow the Traslacion to be held in January 2021 should there be no available vaccine for COVID-19 by then. (Minka Tiangco)
