BACOLOD CITY – A businessman and his two companions died when the Ford Mustang they were riding crashed into a 10-wheel truck loaded with sugarcane along Circumferential Road in Barangay Villamonte here early Tuesday.
Police identified the fatalities as businessman Stanley Flores and his passengers – Welton Porcel and his nephew Mark John Porcel – all residents of the said village, according to the police.
Police Station 4 head Maj. Charles Gever said the Mustang driven by Flores hit the rear part of the truck driven by 42-year-old Micheal Mejica of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
The Mustang got stuck underneath the truck that led to the immediate death of the three victims, Gever said. The accident happened around 1 a.m.
Gever said Mejica thought his tire exploded but when he checked, he discovered that the Mustang was already underneath his vehicle.
Gever said they could not yet tell what really caused the accident. Investigation is ongoing.
He said Mejica is now under police custody and will be released from detention if no charges filed against him within the reglementary period.
