The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has filed complaints last week against three health care providers over allegations of fraud at the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Dante Gierran said on Friday.
“The NBI had already filed the three cases against health care providers,” said the retired NBI chief during an interview over CNN Philippines.
“These three health care providers are situated in Zamboanga del Norte, in Koronadal, and one in Davao del Norte,” he said.
Gierran said the cases that were filed against the three health care providers “involves the very issue of alleged fraud committed against PhilHealth” including allegations of upcasing or padding of claims.
Gierran also ordered PhilHealth’s legal office to dispose all of its backlog cases.
“To be exact, there are 7,500 backlog cases at the central office. But it’s not only about upcasing, maybe other cases also,” he said.
Gierran admitted that the President Duterte’s order to cleanse PhilHealth of corruption by the end of the year is “a very hard job.”
“I am here just about one month ago and I’ve been given by the President up to December to cleanse PhilHealth,” he noted.
“If I can only create a dent on those alleged corruptions at the PhilHealth and then I will be happy and go back to my hometown happy,” he assured. (Jeffrey Damicog)
