BACOLOD CITY – The body of a six-year-old girl, who was believed to be raped, was found in a vacant lot in Barangay Estefania here Thursday.
In a media interview, the victim’s uncle said the victim went home early after attending her cousin’s birth anniversary at their house, where the 24-year-old suspect was also having a drinking session.
Police withheld the names of the victim and the suspect, whom the child’s family and relatives know.
However, the victim went missing on Thursday night, when she failed to go home.
Her family searched for her until her body was found a few meters away from their house at around 10 p.m.
The victim’s uncle alleged that the suspect probably followed the victim on her way home and committed the crime because of the influence of liquor.
Based on a police report, the victim was only wearing an underwear and a T-shirt when she was found by her mother.
City Police Station 4 head Police Major Charles Gever said the suspect, who was initially considered as a person of interest, was brought to the police station for safekeeping upon his request after he learned that he was being suspected by the family behind the child’s death.
Gever said the suspect, during media interviews, admitted that he sexually molested and killed the child through strangulation.
However, despite his confession, police still need to wait for the result of the medical examination to have basis in the filing of charges.
