You haven’t read the last of sex symbols…then and now. This is a sequel of sorts to our previous columns on sex symbols.
Alfred Vargas? Yes, he was a sex symbol early in his career. Think of the films he made for Seiko. Alfred is now on his third and last term as Quezon City congressman. What’s next, the Senate?
Cesar Montano? Well, he was the original “Machete,” a Seiko film. But of course he later became a prestigious actor. He played Jose Rizal in the Marilou Diaz Abaya’s masterpiece.
Gardo Versoza took over the “Machete” role. Gardo’s still at it. He now dances the Tiktok in short shorts.
Vivian Velez was billed Ms. Body Beautiful.
Early on, Marian Rivera and Angel Locsin were sex symbols of sorts. Their careers are somehow connected. Angel was supposed to play “Marimar” for GMA. But she transferred to ABS-CBN. Marian replaced Angel. Both played “Darna.”
Alan Paule and Daniel Fernando starred in Lino Brocka’s “Macho Dancer.” Alan appeared in other Brocka films, while Daniel starred in Peque Gallaga’s erotic classic “Scorpio Nights.”
Alan turned into a fine character actor. Daniel is now the governor of Bulacan.
The leading lady of “Scorpio Nights” was Anna Marie Gutierrez. She appeared in other sexy films, including Gallaga’s “Unfaithful Wife.” She migrated to New York, where she reportedly passed away – false.
