Police killed two suspected gunrunners during an entrapment in Pililia town of Rizal before dawn on Wednesday.
One of the slain suspects was identified as Jake Anden while his companion remains unidentified.
Brig. Gen. Jonnel Estomo, director of the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG), said the operation started when they were tipped of the illegal activities of Anden, ranging from selling drugs, robbery and kidnapping.
One of the AKG operatives then asked a police asset to arrange for the purchase of .45-caliber pistols for P30,000 each from the suspects.
A buy-bust for firearms was then mapped out in Sitio Kawayan in Barangay Halayhayin at around 3 a.m. which resulted in a brief gunfight when the suspects reportedly tried to fight off the cops as they announced their arrest.
Estomo said they are now conducting follow-up operation against the leader of the group, a certain Ryan dela Cruz, who is wanted for a case of kidnapping.
Seized from the slain suspects were five pieces of .45-caliber pistols, a stolen motorcycle, and the marked money. (Aaron Recuenco)
