Super typhoon “Rolly” was merciless that it destroyed a number of churches in the Diocese of Legazpi in Albay.
Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon said the typhoon heavily damaged St. John the Baptist in Tabaco City.
“More than half of the roof was ripped off and blown away,” he said in an interview Wednesday.
Due to this, Baylon said, masses are being held temporarily at the pastoral center.
He said the typhoon also damaged the barrio parish of San Antonio, Tabaco City.
All other churches, Baylon said, reported “minimal” damage so masses can still be held inside the said churches.
The prelate said they are already working on the immediate repairs of the said churches.
Bishop Baylon added that they are also gathering funds to help people whose homes were also destroyed.
“While we are working on the immediate repairs of these churches, we do not forget that many homes have been destroyed, and so were sourcing out funds and building materials to help in their rehabilitation,” he said.
The Social Action Center of Legazpi is currently gathering donations, both in cash and in-kind, for the typhoon survivors in Albay. (Leslie Ann Aquino)
