Phoenix star Calvin Abueva has warned the public against fake social media accounts using his name to spread rumors amid the destruction left by “Typhoon Ulysses.”
On his official Instagram account @abuevacalvinthebeast, Abueva addressed the issue and debunked owning a certain Twitter account @BeastCalvin08 and Facebook user calvin.abueva.100483.
On Facebook, the fake account stated that Abueva had already done his part of helping the typhoon victims by looking for rubber boats and a private plane even to be used for rescue operations.
The account also wrote that Abueva is willing to shoulder all expenses for the rescue vehicles.
The same goes for the reported Twitter account but this time, the tweet said Abueva had secured three private planes and four rubber boats.
Both accounts have been taken down and a report has been filed since.
“[Yung] kakagising mo lang [tapos] bigla ka na lang yumaman. [Hay] poser po yan,” Abueva captioned in his one-minute video clip on Instagram Saturday.
“Wag po kayong maniwala dyan dahil wala po akong pinost na ganyan. ‘Di ko po real account ‘yon.”
The Phoenix forward also vowed to catch the poser behind the fake accounts once outside the Clark bubble.
“‘Sobra sobra na po ‘yung ginawa niya,” Abueva added. “Hindi po ako humingi ng tulong [dahil] kaya ko po yung sarili ko para tumulong sa iba.” (Carlo Anolin)
Rain or Shine player files charges
Rair or Shine guard Rey Nambatac took legal actions against a netizen who made death threats against him and his girlfriend Kiesha Ancheta, a barangay official in Valenzuela City.
Nambatac received threats from a Facebook netizen named Nesar Dumalagan Jr. after he knocked down a triple during garbage time in the Elasto Painters’ 90-88 loss to the Phoenix Fuel Masters on Wednesday which apparently botched a gambling bet.
“Meron nang legal actions na ginawa. May kumausap na sakin na abogado last night and sabi wino-work out na nila. Pumunta na yata sila ng NBI Cybercrime,” said the 26-year-old guard.
In Friday’s Wanted Sa Radyo of Raffy Tulfo featuring Nambatac and Ancheta, Dumalagan said he was not the one who made the threats as his account was hacked.
With the investigation still ongoing, Nambatac is hoping the incident would encourage his fellow PBA standouts to take action on the same issue.
“Hopefully ma-solve ‘yung ganitong problema kasi alam ko personally talaga na hindi lang ako yung nakakatanggap ng death threats. Siguro may ibang players din na nakakatanggap pero di nila alam kanino lalapit, di nila alam gagawin nila.” (Jeremiah Sevilla)
Almazan praying he can play in KO match
Meralco center Raymond Almazan is praying the injury he sustained on Friday night is not serious.
Almazan sat out early in the Bolts’ 78-71 win against the San Miguel Beermen in the quarterfinals opener after a collision with Von Pessumal late in the first quarter.
The 31-year-old cager appeared to have suffered a contusion on his left knee, the same part that was injured (lateral meniscus tear) back in the 2019 Governors’ Cup finals.
The team’s medical staff has yet to determine the extent of Almazan’s injury, but the former Gilas Pilipinas standout already expressed his intention to play in the do-or-die game for a semifinals berth on Sunday.
“Kung wala akong nararamdaman, pwede ko ilaro,” he said. (Jeremiah Sevilla)
