CALAUAN, Laguna – Two men were killed in a shootout with police officers Tuesday night after they allegedly stole a motorcycle and a cellphone in Barangay Lamot 2, this town.
A cop was also wounded during the gunfight. Police probers said they were still establishing the identities of the suspects who were declared dead on arrival at San Pablo City Medical Center.
The wounded police officer was identified as Staff Sergeant Diosdado Casupang Jr., assigned to Calauan Municipal Police Station.
Based on police report, the encounter took place around 7:30 p.m. after one Crisanto delos Santos complained that the two suspects stole his motorcycle and cellular phone.
According to the victim, the suspect pointed a gun at him and forcibly took his motorcycle while travelling along the national road in Barangay Lamot. He immediately reported the incident to the police.
Combined forces of the Calauan Police, Regional Highway Patrol Unit-4A, and 1st Laguna Provincial Mobile Force Company (LPMFC) found the suspects hiding in Barangay Balayhangin, also in this town.
During the police raid, the suspects fired at the raiding teams, forcing the lawmen to retaliate hitting the suspects.
Casupang was hit by a bullet in the ankle and is now in stable condition.
Two handguns and two motorcycles were found at the crime scene, the report said. (Danny Estacio)
