A policeman assigned to Central Mindanao regional police was the latest fatality of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the 25th in the tally of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
A report from the PNP Health Service revealed that there were also 24 new cases of coronavirus infection in the police organization, half of them reported in Ilocos Region.
The latest figure brought to 7,758 the total number of infected policemen across the country since the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
But PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Ildebrandi Usana said the recovery rate remains high as a total of 7,338 have already fully recovered.
“Currently, there are 395 active cases with 25 deaths,” said Usana.
The PNP has its own testing facilities for policemen and their dependents and several isolation facilities for those who would test positive.
Most of those who were infected got the virus in the line of duty, like manning border control points and conducting community-based implementation of the quarantine rules. (Aaron Recuenco)
