TACLOBAN CITY – A man set his own house on fire at dawn Friday, killing two of his children and injuring a nephew in Catarman, Northern Samar.
Police are still determining the reason why Fernando Ford Frigillana, 39, of Barangay Dalakit set their own house on fire even when his two children, aged 11 and 16, and a 13-year-old nephew were inside.
According to Catarman Police Station investigator Police Staff Sgt. Ronald Dente, they received a call from a concerned citizen about the fire that took place at around 4:30 a.m.
Initial investigation conducted by SFO2 Ruben Calumpiano showed that Frigillana set his house afire using gasoline he took from a parked motorcycle.
Frigillana’s two children were killed, while his nephew sustained minor injuries during the blaze.
According to the police, Frigillano was undergoing rehabilitation for alcohol abuse and had earlier been charged with domestic violence.
This was reportedly the reason why his wife left him with seven of their nine children.
Frigillana was immediately arrested and was brought to the Catarman Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition. He will be charged with arson.
