CEBU CITY – A Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) has been created to probe the murder of lawyer Joey Luis Wee.
The SITG will be headed by Police Col. Josefino Ligan, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
Ligan said the SITG will be conducting an investigation separate from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
“This will be a parallel investigation but we will be coordinating with each other. The NBI has already coordinated with us. They asked for some documents in relation to the case of Attorney Wee,” Ligan said.
Wee was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding men shortly after he arrived in his office in Barangay Kasambagan here last Nov. 23.
The SITG is composed of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Central Visayas, Regional Crime Laboratory, City Intelligence Unit, and Investigation and Detective Management Branch of the CCPO.
“We will convene tomorrow (today) to discuss the specific tasking of each unit,” said Ligan.
Ligan said they have yet to establish leads that may help identify the assailants.
“The wife of Atty. Wee has yet to talk to us. She is the best source of information that’s why we are really hoping that we could talk to her,” said Ligan.
Ligan also said they are reviewing security camera footages that were captured in places that the lawyer visited before he was killed.
