The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is set to conduct a forensic examination on the mobile phone of missing lawyer Ryan Oliva, hoping it could give the agency the breakthrough information it needed.
“We already have the mobile phone of Atty. Ryan found inside his bag recovered in Lubang, and will submit the same for digital forensic autopsy and examination,” said NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin on Wednesday.
Lavin said the Oliva’s family turned over his mobile phone to the NBI on Tuesday night after being recovered by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG).
He said “CIDG turned over the mobile phone to the Oliva family who surrendered the same to NBI.”
Oliva’s mobile phone was among his personal belongings that were found inside his backpack that was recovered in the town of Looc in Lubang Islands, Occidental Mindoro.
A construction worker found the backpack along the seashore last Nov. 27 and had turned it over to police.
Aside from the mobile phone, the backpack also contained the missing lawyer’s ATM card, credit card, and identification cards.
NBI investigators discovered that Oliva, who heads the Legislative Liaison’s Unit (LLU) of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and a law professor of the University of the Philippines (UP), was last seen at a resort in Nasugbu, Batangas last Nov. 22. (Jeffrey Damicog)
