When he was named as the next Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), netizens mocked Debold Sinas as they said his obesity makes him unfit to occupy the highest police post of the land.
But what the people have been seeing in the past days was the slimmer version of Sinas compared to the photos that went viral in the social media over the controversial mañanita when he was still the Metro Manila police chief.
“I reduced 20 kilos. That’s almost four months of program,” said Sinas in an interview over the ABS-CBN News Channel.
He said his first journey towards weight reduction was to consult a doctor in order for him to have a health guide as he tried to reduce weight.
He added that the doctors, including fitness instructors, have been guiding him on proper weight loss. Among his daily routine, according to Sinas, is a strict diet and proper exercise.
“Strict diet, healthy living and reduce drinking (of alcohol). Kung uminom, konti lang tapos sleep well,” said Sinas.
He said doctor’s consultation is very important since a person may put himself at risk if he would just engage in a weight loss program.
This is one of the reasons, according to him, why he revived the physical fitness program for the PNP.
Last week, Sinas disclosed that he ordered the dismantling of quarantine facilities in front of the PNP Grandstand at Camp Crame in order to give the PNP personnel enough space for physical fitness that includes jogging and other PNP-initiated programs.
“Our weight reduction, our fitness program, is in response or in observance with the Department of Health protocols. We cannot just do it without doctor’s advice. Something might happen to you” said Sinas.
The official said he had already issued a directive that would continue implementing the policies on weight loss or physical fitness program among the PNP personnel.
He stressed the importance of weight reduction and physical fitness program amid the threat of the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) wherein some medical conditions that may arise from obesity and lack of activity like high bad cholesterol and diabetes would make a person at high risk of infection.
