How wonderful of Rep. Niña Taduran to file a House of Representative resolution seeking the nomination of Nora Aunor as National Artist for her contribution to art and culture.
A much deserved and long delayed honor for the Superstar.
Taduran said: “She has been denied the recognition twice. We are not looking for a saint. We just want to honor someone for her amazing talent and work, which brought glory and inspiration to the country.”
Very well said.
The National Artist Award is not a Mother Teresa Prize. If it was, then very few would qualify. Perhaps only Lucresia Kasilag, Leonor Orosa-Goquingco, and one or two others would have been chosen National Artists.
Look, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and National Commission for Culture and the Arts have chosen Nora Aunor worthy of the honor and recognition. She passed the careful scrutiny. As they say, “Nagdaan sa butas ng karayom.”
Unfortunately, the Palace has the last say on the matter. President Noynoy Aquino rejected the CCP-NCCA recommendation. Undaunted, the same recommendation was submitted to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who also ignored it.
Will Congresswoman Niña Taduran’s move finally give Nora the much deserved and long delayed recognition?
Among actors, after Fernando Poe Jr., Nora and Nora alone deserves the National Artist Award.
