GAB honors Chooks 3×3 player
Being the kuya inside Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3’s Calambubble last October, Chico Lanete made sure to be the example to the youth-laden league.
For being a role model, the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) honored the 41-year-old with the Professional Basketball Sportsmanship Award during the agency’s pro summit, Saturday.
“Being professional players also has responsibilities. This includes being a good example to the amateurs and to the youth,” said GAB Chairman Baham Mitra.
“Chico and Erven [Silverie] exemplified that during their respective league’s bubbles.”
For his part, Lanete is honored to have been bestowed with this citation.
“Special ito sa akin kasi matagal na rin ako dito sa basketball. Nakita ko na ang lahat kaya kailangan kong maging example para sa mga susunod natin na players,” said Lanete, a 14-year-pro who played for Uling Roasters-Butuan during the 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3×3 President’s Cup powered by TM.
Silverie, a 5-on-5 pro in the National Basketball League, plays for La Union PAOwer.
All throughout the NBL season, he has been lauded for his character which led to him winning the league’s Huwarang Homegrown Player award.
Blazers close facility after Covid outbreak
LOS ANGELES (AFP) – A Covid-19 outbreak on the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers has prompted the club to close its practice facility for cleaning and more testing, team general manager Neil Olshey said Sunday.
The move comes ahead of the Trail Blazers’ scheduled pre-season opener at home on Friday against the Sacramento Kings. Their NBA season begins December 23 at home against Utah.
”Over the past four days, we have had three positive Covid test results within our organization,” Olshey said in a statement.
