A surprise drug test for policemen attending a finance course at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City placed a police sergeant in trouble after presence of shabu chemicals was detected in his urine sample.
Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the urine sample of Master Sgt. Leonardo Mariano, Jr. also tested positive during the confirmatory test conducted by the personnel of the PNP Crime Lab.
“The official result of the drug test will be forwarded to the Regional Internal Affairs Service for proper action,” said Sinas.
Mariano was among the 74 policemen who attended a Finance Course on December 11 at Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.
All the attendees were subjected to a mandatory drug test.
“All the samples tested negative except that of Mariano” said Sinas.
The PNP has initiated an aggressive drug testing for its personnel across the country as part of the effort to get rid of drug users among police personnel amid reports before of policemen being caught using shabu.
More than 400 policemen were already dismissed from the service for testing positive for illegal drugs since 2016. (Aaron Recuenco)
