CEBU CITY— Hundreds of motorcycle riders were flagged down early morning last Sunday by agents of the Land Transportation Office-Central Visayas (LTO 7) and Highway Patrol Group (HPG) on Transcentral Highway (TCH).
Anxious riders submitted themselves to inspection, expecting that they would be given citation tickets at the checkpoint. But to their surprise, they instead received Christmas presents.
“What we gave were form of Christmas gifts from the LTO 7 and HPG 7,” said LTO 7 regional director Victor Caindec.
Caindec said 150 driving school scholarships were given to motorcycle drivers living in the area. The gift certificates can be used for applying for a driver’s license.
A total of 200 sacks of 10-kilo rice were also given to some riders.
At least 100 food vouchers that can be used in restaurants located in TCH were also given.
“Aside from the early Christmas treats, we also want to help the restaurant especially the locals in their food business, so we have partnered with them with our food vouchers,” said Caindec.
Five lucky riders also went home with brand new helmets during the raffling of prizes.
Caindec said the activity was part of LTO 7’s road safety advocacy.
