A suspected drug peddler was killed in a shootout with authorities Monday night in Barangay Sumacab Este, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija.
Police Regional director Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon said the slain suspect was on board his tricycle when joint elements of Cabanatuan City Police Station, Provincial Highway Patrol Team, and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit tried to flag him down as they were responding to a reported carnapping incident.
The suspect sped off, prompting the cops to chase him.
The suspect, cornered at Purok 1, Barangay Sumacab Este, opened fire at the chasing troops. The suspect died due multiple wounds.
Apart from his homemade .45-caliber pistol, 10 pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu, ring, bracelet, and P550 cash were recovered from the slain suspect, who remained unidentified as of Tuesday. (Liezle Basa Inigo)
