Three policemen were arrested and now facing dismissal from the service after they were caught extorting money in two separate operations in Taguig City and Albay.
Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the two cops in Albay were arrested for extorting P2 million from their supposed victim whom they threatened that the parents would be kidnapped if they would not pay them.
He identified them as Staff Sgts. Ernan Mullasco and Gerald Capuz, both assigned to the Camalig town of Albay. They were arrested along with security guard Jay Quides and Melody Quides during the entrapment at the Albay Provincial Engineering Office in Camalig town on Tuesday.
Sinas said a background check revealed that the four arrested suspects are members of a criminal group engaged in robbery, extortion, gun-for-hire that operates in Bicol.
In Taguig City, Staff Sgt. Carlo Sison was collared on Wednesday night for demanding P15,000 from a drug suspect in exchange for exclusion of his name on persons being monitored for illegal drugs activities in Taguig City.
Sison, assigned to the Tipas Police Sub-Station, was arrested in Barangay Napindan after receiving the money. (Aaron Recuenco)
