More commuters will be able to travel to and from Metro Manila as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to open additional routes for modern jeepneys and UV Express units starting tomorrow.
The LTFRB released over the week Memorandum Circular No. 2020-083 allowing the resumption of operations of 15 modern public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and 15 UV Express units in the National Capital Region beginning tomorrow.
Under the latest circular, the routes to be opened for the additional public utility vehicles are the Rodriguez Suburban-SM North EDSA route for modern PUJs and the San Rafael-Cubao route for UV Express units.
The LTFRB memorandum said roadworthy modern jeepneys and UV Express will be allowed to ply the routes without a special permit but a QR Code should be displayed on the unit.
The QR code is a special barcode that can be downloaded from the LTFRB website to prove that their vehicles were among the units permitted to take passengers on the approved routes across the metropolis.
Drivers and operators, as well as passengers, are likewise reminded to strictly comply with the “seven commandments” of public health measures in transportation proposed by medical experts.
These include wearing of face masks and face shields; no talking and making phone calls; no eating; keep PUVs well- ventilated; frequent disinfection of units; not allowing passengers with COVID-19 symptoms to board public transportation, and observing appropriate physical distancing.
The LTFRB warned that failure to comply with the guidelines will incur penalties such as imposition of fines or cancellation or suspension of the Certificate of Public Convenience or Provisional Authority of the unit. (Alexandria San Juan)
