Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, director of the Central Luzon regional police, has ordered a thorough investigation on the explosions near the municipal hall of Jaen town in Nueva Ecija on Sunday.
There was no casualty during the two explosions but de Leon said he already tasked his men to determine the motive behind the attack.
Quoting field reports, De Leon said the local police were conducting security measures at the compound of the Jaen Municipal Police Station at around 4:30 p.m. when two loud explosions were heard.
The blasts occurred near Gate 5 of the municipal hall.
“The explosions came from IED (Improvised Explosive Devices) with nails used as shrapnel. It happened during a power outage in the entire town,” said de Leon.
Recovered from the place of explosions were pieces of motorcycle battery, scattered nails and bottle with suspected residue of gasoline.
