President Duterte denounced the policeman involved in the “brutal” killing of a mother and son in Tarlac, saying he “cannot escape the rigors of justice” after he was caught committing the offense on video.
In a televised address Monday night, Duterte admitted he was shocked after watching the viral video on the Tarlac shooting incident. The video clip was earlier shown to the President by his former assistant and now Senator Christoper Go.
“I’d like to call the PNP (Philippine National Police): Be sure that he is detained ha. He should not be allowed to go out kasi serious offense ‘yan. There’s no bail,” he said.
“Double murder is a serious offense, a grave offense. So from the time you are arrested up to the time that you are haled to court to answer for the death of those two persons, innocent ones, walang bail ka (There is no bail)…and I don’t think that you can escape the rigors of justice because nakuha sa TV pati ako napanganga. Kawala-walang kwenta (it was caught on television. I was also shocked. That’s unfair and brutal masyado (That’s unfair and so brutal),” he said.
Duterte further told the police: “Pakainin ninyo ng COVID ‘yung ulol na ‘yon (Get that fool infected with COVID).”
Police Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca will reportedly face double murder charges after he shot his two neighbors in Paniqui, Tarlac Sunday over a property right-of-way dispute. Nuezca, detailed at the Parañaque City police station, has surrendered to authorities.
Duterte has branded the cop as “crazy” and wondered aloud how he passed his neuro-psychiatric examination.
“Isa lang itong klaseng pulis na ‘to. May sakit ito sa utak. Topak. And I was wondering why he was able to — nakalusot sa neuro. You could detect a person by the way he answers in a — ‘yung mga tests sa neuro. Tarantado ‘yung gago na ‘yon (This one of kind policeman. He is sick in the head. Crazy. I was wondering why he was able to pass his neuro exam. You could detect a person by the way he answers in the neuro tests. He is a fool),” he said.
Following the Tarlac incident, the President also reminded the country’s policemen to perform their duty in accordance with the law. He warned that there would be “hell to pay” if they commit any wrongdoing.
“You do it right, I’m with you. You do it wrong, and there will be a hell to pay. Iyon ang sinabi ko sa aking SONA (That’s what I said during my State of the Nation Address),” he said.
“Do your duty, enforce the law. Your actions must be in accordance with the law. You do not follow the law, mag-salvage ka, magpatay ka diyan (you commit murder), then I’m sorry, that is not part of the agreement of how we should do our work,” he said.
