Many wonder how reindeer got to be associated with Christmas worldwide.
Well, that song, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, popularized the identification, for one. But, why reindeer? Why not any other animal?
According to Christmas Central, the poem, “The Night Before Christmas,” contributed much to the modern image and folklore of Santa as a bearded white man riding a sleigh driven by a batch
of reindeer.
The reindeer are numbered at eight. They were mentioned as flying.
From this simple beginning, the idea of Santa’s flying reindeer has become a permanent part of the story and fun of Christmas.
Reindeer are now common Christmas decorations.
Trish Phillips says in an online article that reindeer represent journeying, wandering, safe travels, strength and endurance.
Reindeer are any of several large deer of the genus Rangifer.
Originally from the northern and arctic regions of Europe, Asia, and North America, both male and female reindeer have antlers.
