The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is set to open additional routes for at least 440 provincial buses on Christmas Eve to cater to passengers traveling for the holiday break.
According to the LTFRB, these provincial buses will ply five more inter-regional routes across Luzon starting Thursday, December 24, as stated in its Memorandum Circulars 2020-051G and 2020-051H.
This brings the total number of authorized provincial bus units to 1,372 plying 41 approved routes across the country since the government allowed them to return to roads last September 30.
Under the latest circulars, the following routes will be opened in time with the anticipated influx of passengers this holiday season: Baguio City – Mariveles, Bataan, Baguio City – Olongapo, Zambales, NLEX Terminal, Bocaue – Baguio City, NLEX Terminal, Bocaue – Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, and NLEX Terminal, Bocaue – Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.
According to the LTFRB, a special permit will be required for units plying inter-regional routes outside Metro Manila which can be applied online through [email protected]. (Alexandria San Juan)
