Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), ordered on Monday the immediate dismissal of a female police sergeant who was caught engaged in indiscriminate firing in Malabon City on New Year’s eve.
Since Staff Sgt. Karen Borromeo is assigned in Metro Manila, Sinas said he had already tasked the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to implement the fastest summary dismissal proceedings against her.
“We have a very strong case against her and the instruction of our SILG (Secretary of the Interior and Local Government Eduardo An) is to implement the same procedure of having her dismissed in 30 days,” said Sinas.
Borromeo was collared by local policemen who responded to the report of the local residents about hearing gunshots in the neighborhood.
The female cop tested negative for illegal drugs and liquor but yielded positive during paraffin test, which means gunpowder residues were traced on her hands.
The PNP leadership has repeatedly warned its personnel not to engage in indiscriminate firing during New Year revelry and warned of consequences if they are caught doing it. (Aaron Recuenco)
