A peasant activist was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Balilihan, Bohol last Dec. 30, a human rights group said on Tuesday.
According to the Central Visayas chapter of Karapatan, the victim was identified as Lorenzo “Dodoy” Paña, a resident of Barangay Bantolinao in Antequera town.
He was a former officer of peasant organization Hugpong sa Mag-uuma Dapit sa Kasadpan (HUMANDA KA) in the province.
Paña was killed while he was on his way to bring lunch to his son working at a construction site near his residence. He sustained six gunshot wounds in the body.
Karapatan, in a statement, strongly condemned the killing of the Bol-anon activist.
He was a victim of “red-tagging” and subjected to various “harassment and threats by state forces” before his death, the group said.
Paña was among the 305 farmers and peasants leaders who were killed since President Duterte assumed office in 2016. (Raymundo Antonio)
