The Metro League family, headed by tournament director Bonnie Tan, mourns the passing away of Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Danilo Lim Wednesday morning.
“We offer our condolences to the family of Chairman Lim,” said Tan. “He is a huge loss not just for the MMDA but to the entire country as well.”
Lim, 65, was the No. 1 supporter and catalyst since 2017 of the Metro Manila Sports Fest, a year-long tournament of various sports disciplines targeting the youth among the local government units in Metro Manila.
“(Chairman Lim) loved sports. He always supported the MMDA’s participation in various basketball leagues. He also institutionalized the Metro Manila Sports Fest where various sports and games are played. We are really saddened by his sudden death and he will surely be missed,” said MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia, himself also a staunch supporter of the Metro Manila Sports Fest.
The Metro League is the organizer of the MMDA’s Metro Manila Sports Fest, which was one among the many sports activities that were temporarily suspended because of the Covid-19 pandemic last year.
“The Metro League and the Metro Manila Sports Fest would not have garnered the success and support of the LGUs these last few years if not for Chairman Lim’s efforts,” Tan added.
The MMDA chairman was diagnosed positive for Covid-19 last December 29. He succumbed to complications due to the said coronavirus eight days later.
