PANGASINAN – A retired US Navy man was arrested by police after shooting to death his girlfriend who had just given birth to their baby in Barangay Macayug, Mangaldan, Pangasinan, Wednesday.
Mangaldan Police said the suspect, Rommer Gonzales, 40, a retired US Navy service man, was nabbed at his compound in Barangay Embarcadero, Mangaldan, Pangasinan around 4:30 p.m., Wednesday.
The suspect was arrested after three witnesses identified him. Prior to his arrest, he shot to death his girlfriend Maria Theresa Ambas, 39, of Barangay Macayug, Mangaldan, at around 1:30 p.m..
Probers said the suspect arrived on board a black Rusi motorcycle and repeatedly shot the victim. Possible motives behind the incident were love triangle and custody of their newly born baby boy, police said.
Investigation revealed that prior to the shooting, the suspect and the victim had engaged in an argument based on their conversation on social media.
Crime scene investigators recovered five fired cartridge cases of unknown caliber.
The suspect is now under the custody of Mangaldan Police. He will be charged with murder, according to the local police. (Liezle Basa Inigo)
