CEBU CITY — A retired police colonel was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants in Barangay Barrio Luz here past 10 a.m. Friday.
Retired Pol. Lt. Col. Renato Malazarte succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was former deputy chief for administration of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.
The victim, a resident of the barangay, was into selling of butane products after retiring from police service.
Police said the victim was walking towards his multicab carrying empty butane canisters when two men on a motorcycle arrived.
Police said the victim was shot four times.
“We will check his background as a policeman and after he retired. It’s also important that we can talk to his family,” said Police Col. Josefino Ligan, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
City Mayor Edgardo Labella also ordered the CCPO to solve the murder.
“There should be no stone left unturned,” Labella said.
