BACOLOD CITY – One person died in the massive flooding that inundated more areas in northern Negros Occidental Friday.
Silay City Mayor Mark Golez said yesterday that an unidentified man in Barangay Guimbalaon was trapped inside his house situated near a river.
Golez said the man was able to get out but he returned to get something when his house made of light materials collapsed due to the strong river current.
Golez said the man was hit by the debris of his house. “Sad to say, we have one casualty,” the Silay City mayor added.
He said the Friday flashfloods brought by heavy downpour affected more than 1,000 residents in various barangays.
“This is worst than of the New Year’s Day as more infrastructures were damaged,” he added.
The city also suffered in the Jan. 1 flooding caused by runoff of water brought by heavy rains, affecting 706 families.
Golez said that a landslide was reported in Barangay Patag, with no casualty. He said they are still checking other damage brought by the flood.
The recent flood also affected the cities of Talisay, Cadiz, and Victorias, and the town of E.B. Magalona. (Glazyl Masculino)
