To remove any doubt about the efficacy and safety of Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine, Malacañang said President Duterte is willing to be one of the first to receive the vaccine to build confidence among the public.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque made the statement after the President highlighted in his public address on Wednesday evening the importance of the people getting the vaccines first and politicians going last.
In his Thursday presser, Roque said that President Duterte has always been willing to be the first in the country to be vaccinated by any vaccine to prove that they are safe.
“Hindi naman po out of the question na magpapauna siya magpabakuna kung talagang kinakailangan na palakasin ang kumpyansa ng ating taumbayan,” he said.
However, the Palace official stressed that the government’s priority is to keep the people safe from the said respiratory disease rather than giving the vaccines to politicians first.
“Kaya natin ginagamit ang kaban ng taumbayan, kinakailangan yung nakakaraming mga mahirap ang mauna na maisalba sa danger na magkasakit ng COVID-19,” Roque said.
On top of the government’s priority list to receive the COVID-19 vaccines are medical frontliners and senior citizens.
