CEBU CITY – A 34-year-old jail guard was gunned down Thursday outside his office in Barangay Dunggoan, Danao City, Cebu.
Police identified the victim as Jail Officer 2 Reymond Roble Vasquez. He was on duty at the time he was killed around 10:30 p.m..
Police said the victim was in his multicab when four motorcycles each boarded by two men arrived.
Without a word, the bonnet-wearing men fired shots at the jail officer before speeding off.
The victim, who suffered bullet wounds in the head and body, was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.
“We are coordinating with the Bureau of Jail and Management to check the victim’s background. We will check if he had enemies because it appears the assailants there were in extreme anger that way he was killed,” said Police Lt. Col. Maria Therese Macatangay, chief of the Danao City Police Station.
Macatangay said investigators will also review the footages captured by security camera in the premises where the attack happened. (Calvin Cordova)
