ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police arrested an alleged drug dealer and seized two packs of suspected shabu with an estimated market value of P1.1 million in a buy-bust operation in this city Friday.
Zamboanga Peninsula Police (PRO-9) director Police Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Genaro E. Ylagan identified the suspect as Nurhan Ismula, alias “Nick,” 32, married, of Sitio Mulumuluan, Barangay Mercedes, this city.
According to Ylagan, Ismula was placed under surveillance after police learned that he was engaged in the illegal drugs trade, victimizing students of universities and colleges in this city.
A buy-bust operation was planned that led to the suspect’s arrest by policemen from the Zamboanga City police Station 6 (ZCPS-6) in Attih Clan, Checkpoint, Barangay Arena Blanco at 8:40 p.m.
Recovered from him were two packs of shabu weighing 97 grams with an estimated street value of P1.1 million.
Despite the continuous apprehension of drug dealers, shabu continues to proliferate in most barangays and the commercial district of this city.
A few days ago, Police Major Jiveetson Pelovello, chief of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Zamboanga City Police Office, was placed on floating status after he tested positive for drug use twice.
Pelovello was one of the police officers alleged to have mishandled or maltreated suspects during their arrest. (Nonoy Lacson)
