ZAMBOANGA CITY – Four children perished when they were trapped inside their burning house in Mahayag town, Zamboanga del Sur, Thursday night.
Zamboanga Peninsula Police (PRO-9) director Brig. Gen. Ronaldo Genaro E. Ylagan identified the children as Gian, 9; Njay, 8; Anthon,7; and Christian 4, all surnamed Colanggo.
Ylagan said the fire took place about 10:05 p.m. Thursday at Purok 1, Sitio Bayanihan, Barangay Lower Salug Daku in Mahayag town.
According to Ylagan, the four children were left by their father, Gil Albatera Colanggo, 43, a farmer, at around 9:30 p.m. inside the house to attend the wake of his relative, just a kilometer away from the place.
But when the father returned home 10:20 pm, he was shocked to see that their house already on fire with his four children left trapped inside, Ylagan said.
Police learned that the mother of the four children is working abroad.
Ylagan said the police in Mahayag will conduct a thorough investigation as to the cause of the fire. (Nonoy E. Lacson)
