TACLOBAN CITY – A 32-year-old farmer surrendered to the police last Thursday, two days after he allegedly raped and killed a 10-year-old girl who asked for help in answering her school module in Calubian, Leyte.
Eastern Visayas police spokesperson Police Lt. Col. Bella Rentuaya identified the suspect as Jaime Marahay, 32.
The child’s body was found by barangay officials and personnel of the San Isidro, Leyte Municipal Police Station in a mountainous area in San Isidro.
Initial investigation disclosed that at around 11 a.m. on Jan. 19, the victim went to the house of Marahay, looking for his wife who could help her with her school module.
However, the suspect’s wife was at the barangay hall attending a meeting, and only the suspect and their two minor sons were left in the house.
Marahay told his sons to take their cow out to pasture, leaving him and the victim alone in the house.
After raping the victim, the suspect brought her to a farm in San Isidro where he killed her using a bolo and buried her.
The victim sustained a hack wound in the neck that caused her death.
The Calubian municipal police have requested an autopsy on the victim.
