CEBU CITY – A former policeman was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding men a few meters away from his house in Barangay Labangon here on Monday afternoon.
Police Cpl. Rodel Demaangay, 40, died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds in the head and body.
Police Capt. Jonathan dela Cerna, chief of the Labangon police, said the former policeman was sitting by the road in Sitio Bliss when two men on a motorcycle arrived.
The motorcycle riders stopped in front of victim and, without a word, started firing at him.
The gunmen, who wore full-faced helmets, drove off after the attack.
At least 30 shells of .45-caliber and 9mm pistols were recovered in the crime scene, Dela Cerna.
Initial investigation showed that the victim was last assigned in Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
The victim was reportedly dismissed from service in June 2020 due to three counts of grave misconduct.
According to the victim’s wife, Venus, the former policeman was assigned to the Special Weapon and Tactics of the Cebu City Police Office before he was transferred to ARMM.
“We will gather more information to possibly determine the motive of the attack and identify the perpetrators,” said Dela Cerna. (Calvin D. Cordova)
