The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has rescued 33 passengers and 15 crew members aboard a distressed motor banca that encountered engine trouble in Sabtang Island, Batanes Wednesday.
The PCG, citing the report from the captain of the motor banca, said the propeller of MB STA INES 2 malfunctioned while cruising from Ivana Port to Sabtang Port.
Fortunately, one of the passengers identified as PCG Seaman Second Class (SN2) Jayson Orendez immediately contacted the Coast Guard Sub-Station Sabtang for rescue and assistance.
Orendez then instructed all passengers to wear life jacket and remain calm while waiting for the search and rescue team.
The Coast Guard Sub-Station Sabtang coordinated with a private motorbanca which towed the distressed motorbanca to the Sabtang Port. (Richa Noriega)
