A 6.1-magnitude earthquake jolted Davao del Sur past Sunday noon, according to state seismologists.
This was the second time that Davao del Sur was rocked by an earthquake on Sunday, this time with a higher magnitude.
The tremor, which occurred at 12:22 p.m., was tectonic in origin with a depth of 15 kilometers, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The epicenter of the quake was plotted 5 kilometers southwest of Magsaysay town in Davao del Sur.
Phivolcs initially measured the quake at 6.3-magnitude.
State seismologists reported the following intensities:
Intensity 5 – Kidapawan City, Arakan, Carmen, Kabacan, Makilala and M’Lang, North Cotabato; Koronadal City and Banga, South Cotabato; Matalam, Cotabato; Bansalan, Hagonoy, Magsaysay and Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
Intensity 4 – Davao City; Banisilan and Midsayap, North Cotabato; Don Carlos, Bukidnon; Polomok, Sto. Nino and Norala, South Cotabato South Cotabato; Alabel, Kiamba and Malapatan, Saranggani; Palimbang and Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat
Intensity 3 – Cotabato City; Cagayan De Oro City; Kadingilan and Kitaotao, Bukidnon; Tagum City, Davao del Norte; Maco and Nabunturan, Davao de Oro
Intensity 2 – Cagayan de Oro City; Kalilangan, Bukidnon
Intensity 1 – Bislig City, Surigao Del Sur
Instrumental Intensities were recorded in the following areas:
Intensity 5 – Koronadal City, South Cotobato; Kidapawan City, North Cotabato
Intensity 4 – Alabel and Kiamba, Sarangani; General Santos City, South Cotabato
Intensity 2 – Cagayan de Oro and Gingoog, Misamis Oriental
Intensity 1 – Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental
Following the strong temblor, a 3.5-magnitude aftershock was felt 11 km southwest of Magsaysay town at 12:30 p.m.
Another aftershock at 2.5-magnitude hit the same town at 12:34 p.m., followed by a 2.1-magnitude aftershock at 12:41 p.m.
A 4.8-magnitude earthquake rocked parts Davao Del Sur at 7:28 a.m. on Sunday.
The temblor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 20 kilometers.
Intensity 4 was felt in Makilala, Cotabato; Intensity 3 in Kiblawan, Davao Del Sur; Davao City; Kidapawan City and Tulunan, Cotabato; Columbio, Sultan Kudarat; Intensity 2 in Banisilan and Arakan, Cotabato; Cotabato City; Koronadal City and Surallah, South Cotabato; Tacurong and Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat.
Instrumental Intensity 4 was recorded in Kidapawan City, Cotabato; Intensity 2 in Alabel, Sarangani; and Intensity 1 in Kiamba, Sarangani and General Santos City.
Phivolcs warned of aftershocks and damages following the quake.
