JUST A THOUGHT: “I am not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying.” Nelson Mandela
NO SAINT: Jamie Rivera is the first to warn you she is no saint, and that she’s as human and as wrongful as the rest of us.
The veteran singer-actress makes it clear as people may get that impression just because she has been singing so-called inspirational songs that praise God.
“I’m very happy to be singing, recording those songs,’’ Jamie says, “but I don’t expect people to see me as holier than thou.’’
Nevertheless, she admits she tries and works hard to maintain a clean life acceptable to God.
GIVE OUR YES: Jamie has been chosen by the Archdiocese of
Manila to record the song, “We Give Our Yes,” in celebration of the historic 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the country.
Launched on Jan. 29, it will serve as the official mission song of the celebration.
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said in a statement that “We Give Our Yes” conveys the power of faith and hope in these trying times. It also reminds Filipinos to keep saying yes to the mission of Jesus.
The celebration of the historic 500 years of Christianity in the country has for its theme, “Gi ed to Give.”
Multi-awarded church composer Fr. Carlo Magno Marcelo composed “We Give Our Yes,” produced by ABS-CBN Music creative director Jonathan Manalo.
“We Give Our Yes” is now out on digital platforms.
