THE Laguna Heroes stretched their winning streak to 10 matches with a 16-5 drubbing of the Cordova Dagami Warriors at the start of the 2nd phase of elimination round in the PCAP All-Filipino Cup Saturday held online via the lichess platform.
Grandmaster John Paul Gomez led the charge of the Heroes by humbling his rival. They Heroes improved to 11-2 win-loss record in the Northern Division.
Also contributing to Laguna’s triumph were FIDE Master Austin Jacob Literatus, Woman National Master Jean Karen Enriquez, FIDE Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad, Vince Angelo Medina, Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo, Candidate Master Arjie Bayangat and team owner-playing coach Dr. Alfredo “Fred” Paez
The Dagami Warriors dropped to 6-7 in the Southern Division.
“We have been treating each round like a championship round,” said Paez.
The Heroes encountered difficulty in the blitz, scoring only a 4-3 win, but they were rampant in the rapids with Literatus, Enriquez, Gomez, Medina and Lorenzo scoring convincing wins over their rivals.
Prior to beating the Dagami Warriors, the Heroes, also bannered by GM Rogelio Barcenilla, crushed the Cebu City Machers, 20-1.
Only NM Lincoln Yap was able to score for City Machers after beating Bagamasbad in their blitz encounter.
The 24-team tournament is organized by PCAP, headed by Chairman Michael Angelo Chua and President/Commissioner Atty. Paul Elauria.
