Six of the Filipina migrants who were victims of human trafficking in Syria arrived in Manila on Saturday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Sunday.
These returnees were among the 38 Filipinas currently housed at the Philippine Embassy shelter in Syria, all undocumented who ran away from their employers due to harsh working conditions.
The DFA earlier put some of its personnel at the Philippine Embassy in Damascus under investigation for allegedly mistreating the Filipina wards in the Embassy shelter.
In a statement, the department said it remains fully committed to monitoring the situation of overseas Filipinos and promote and protect their welfare and interests. (Roy Mabasa)
