Five people were injured while 45 people were forced to flee their homes due to the damage brought by the 6.1-magnitude earthquake that hit Davao del Sur and other provinces in Mindanao on Sunday.
The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said the five injured victims were from the province of Cotabato while the 45 individuals from Davao del Sur were temporarily evacuated to the UP Mindanao Faculty and Staff Housing as their houses were either damaged or subject to structural damage inspection.
The OCD reported that three houses in Bansalan town of Davao del Sur were damaged by the quake while a university gym and a barangay hall in Davao City were also reported damaged.
In Cotabato, 21 houses were also reported damaged, two of them were totally destroyed. Two churches, a hospital and two private establishments were also damaged.
The OCD also reported that the Kidapawan Medical Specialist, Madonna Medical Center and the Kidapawan Doctors Hospital Inc. evacuated their patients to the designated evacuation sites to assess hospital facilities.
Eight landslides were also reported in Cotabato, seven in Makilala town, and one in M’lang town.
The City Government of Kidapawan and the Cotabato School Division suspended work from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Monday to give time for structural assessment of the building. (Aaron Recuenco)
