TACLOBAN CITY – A 15-year-old boy died during the flooding triggered by days of heavy downpour in Palo, Leyte.
The teenager was among the residents trapped in the flood that reached up to the roofs of dozen of houses in Tsu Chi Village, Sitio Caloogan, Barangay San Jose, Palo, authorities reported.
The flooding rendered some roads and national highways impassable, affecting at least 64 villages in seven municipalities and a city; namely San Miguel, Sta. Fe, Palo, Pastrana, Dagami, Dulag, Tanauan, and Tacloban City.
Work and classes in Palo town has also remained suspended since at least 22 out of 33 villages were flooded. A landslide was reported in Barangay Barayong.
Mayor Frances Ann Petilla attributed the flooding to the rate of rainfall which caused the two huge rivers in the municipality to overflow. Petilla said over 3,000 families have been affected by heavy downpour and flooding. (Marie Tonette Marticio)
