Gunmen shot dead on Saturday a suspected drug lord who was able to elude arrest during a buy-bust in Cebu last year, police said Monday.
Gen. Debold Sinas, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said Eddie Lumontad was repeatedly shot by five armed men who stormed his house in Upper Kampo in Pinamungajan town of Cebu.
“Investigators have processed the crime scene for possible trace evidence and have taken witness’ statements that will aid probers in establishing the identities of the gunmen,” said Sinas.
Based on the PNP data, Lumontad was listed in police records as a 2nd level drug personality in the drug watchlist operating in the southwest area of Cebu Province, particularly in the municipalities of Pinamungajan, Balamban, Asturias and cities of Toledo and Carcar.
Lumontad was reportedly an associate in the illegal drug business of former police officer Adonis Dumpit who died during a joint buy-bust operation.
On October 21 last year, Lumontad, escaped during a buy-bust wherein 20 kilograms of shabu were confiscated. His companion Gilbert Lomanog was arrested.
Sinas said Lumontad was arrested five times for drug-related offenses, but the cases filed against him were dismissed.
