BACOLOD CITY – A jealous man bludgeoned his wife to death with a hammer inside their house in Barangay Camingawan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental Tuesday.
Police identified the victim as Delbeth Laurente, 40. Her husband, Saler, 44, is now detained at the police station and will be charged with parricide.
Lt. Joemel Salarda, deputy police chief of Kabankalan City Police Station, said the couple was sleeping when Saler woke up and suddenly hit his wife’s head with a hammer.
The suspect then brought their five children to his sibling’s house and admitted killing his wife, and later surrendered to the police, Salarda said.
Salarda said the couple’s children were not able to witness the incident as they were asleep at that time, and there was no commotion.
Police learned that the suspect had not eaten for five days at the time he killed his wife.
Salarda said the suspect had been thinking that his wife had a lover waiting for her outside their house, and both were planning to kill him.
Salarda said the suspect, according to his children, would usually drink liquor than eat, thus making him think of such scenario.
He said that the suspect reportedly physically abused his wife whenever he’s drunk, but the latter chose not to have it reported to the authorities.
He said the suspect knew about what he did and claimed he was not drunk that time, but he could not talk properly.
