A shipment declared as furniture was found concealing P50 million worth of cigarettes from China at the Port of Cagayan de Oro, the Bureau of Customs (BoC) said Friday.
Boxes of cigarettes branded as Marvels and Two Moon were discovered in a shipment that arrived at the Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental on February 14.
It was only declared as furniture and consigned to MRC 418 Direct Import Export Corp.
According to the bureau, through the receipt of a derogatory information about the shipment, a pre-lodgment control order was issued by District Collector John Simon of the Port of Cagayan de Oro.
Customs agents then opened the shipment for 100 percent physical examination.
A warrant of seizure and detention has been issued a g a ins t the shipment and will be scheduled for destruction.
Simon also commended the port’s Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service headed by for their continued vigilance in border protection.
