SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela – A policewoman died while four other lady cops were injured when the patrol car they were riding crashed into a concrete fence after one of its tires blew out at Purok 4, Barangay Sinsayon in Santiago City Saturday afternoon.
Cpl. Bienvinido Seredio, investigator on case, said the victims were proceeding to the municipality of Cordon to provide road security for a VIP when the accident happened.
Police identified the fatality as Pat. Archelle Duldulao, and the injured as Cpl. Berna Austria, Pat. Pauline Carlos, Cpl. Kacelyn Tarayao and Pat. Riza Mae Laureta, all assigned to Santiago City Police Station.
The patrol car, a white Toyota Hilux (A40823), driven by Cpl. Berna Austria, was travelling along the national highway at about 4:20 p.m. when its left front tire blew out.
The car encroached the opposite lane as the driver lost control of the steering wheel. The vehicle then overturned more than five times before crashing into the concrete fence of Villa Ceferenina.
Pat. Duldulao fell on the pavement and was run over by the patrol car. She died on the spot.
The four other cops sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Renmar Specialist’s Hospital in Santiago City, police said.
