A boy reportedly drowned due to widespread flooding in Surigao del Norte while two others were listed as missing as tropical depression “Auring” pounded Mindanao and several parts of the country with heavy rains.
Mark Timbal, spokesman of the Office of Civil Defense, said they are yet to verify the reported casualty in Surigao del Norte and the two other missing in Surigao del Sur.
“Since the weather disturbance caused widespread flooding in those affected areas, we assume that the circumstances of these incidents are flood-related,” Timbal said in an interview.
Timbal said “Auring” displaced 31,884 families, composed of 121,970 people. Almost all of those who were forced to flee their homes are from the Caraga region.
A total of 566 families were also displaced in Davao region, 18 families in Northern Mindanao and eight families in Bicol.
Timbal said the widespread flooding also damaged 240 houses in Davao region and Caraga region, 60 of them were totally damaged.
